The City of Gauteng Mayor Herman Mashaba and MMC for finance Funzi Ngobeni were in Ormonde near Golf Reef City for the #BuyaMthetho Tuesday Morning.

Mashaba said on twitter the revenue enhancement unit visited the large non-compliant developments to recover the lost revenues, where the electricity is illegally connceted. 

“The revenue enhancement unit has been actively targeting large non-compliant developments to recuperate lost revenue, when the City’s services are connected illegally.”

Mayor said the City will also be delivering R20 million invoice to businesses that need to be paid in just seven days.

“Today, the focus will again be on recently developed properties which have cost the City millions in lost revenue.

“We are delivering a R20 mil invoice to a business that needs to be paid within 7 days.”

Ormonde is amongst the developments that reportedly owe the City R20 million for illegally connecting electricity since 2015. 

“We’ve just reached our first location in Ormonde near Golf Reef City. The organisation has been illegally connected to power since 2015 and owes the City over R20 million.”

Mashaba said once the Buya Mthetho operation recovers the money lost to businesses through non payments of rates and services, it will assist the City to deliver what it has promised to its residents. 

“The City's well established #BuyaMthetho Unit today continues with the work of recovering money lost to business through nonpayment of Rates & Services, this money will help the City deliver on its promises to service the residents.”

Mashaba also twitted by saying they won’t let the City to continue be robbed of its money.

“The executive Mayor means business and won't let the City continue to be robbed of its money.”

"He City won't rest till every cent owed to it is paid. Nobody will be allowed to consume water and electricity unduly free."

Mashaba promised to deal with the officials within the City that are doing corruption with illegal connections and has termed them as the public enemy number one.

"Even if we find that there has been corruption within the City resulting in illegal connections,  we will make sure those officials are dealt with. Corruption is public enemy no1."
