Twitter came out gun blazing on Thursday, when President Cyril Ramaphosa tweeted that the government has built 447,000 new houses for South Africans across the country, providing more than 1.5 million people with a proper roof over their head.

The president of Transform RSA, Adil Nchabeleng tweeted that the government should stop calling RDP shelters houses, since they are classified as humanitarian crisis shelter.

He also said the government should stop oppressing the people and start delivering real houses, rather than apartheid style match box shelters.

“Other countries this what you call houses is classified as humanitarian crisis shelter. And do not qualify to be named houses. An RDP shelter is not a house stop oppressing our people and start delivering real houses, this is apartheid style match box shelter. @MYANC

@Mduduzi Msiza, from Msizar technologies said had the government created jobs the people should have afforded to build better houses and contributed positively to the economy of South Africa.

“That Is not an achievement, just shows that we are not progressing, If we created 447k jobs those people could afford to build their own homes and contribute positively to the economy, same as being proud of paying social grants it's nothing to be proud off.”

Another tweet from @Ricardo Elle said the people should be given the land so that they’d build their own houses in proper yards instead of squandering them in two meter houses.

“Give black people their land they will build their own houses in proper yards instead of squandering them in 2metre houses - give us the land title deeds we will build our own houses don't sell us.”
