Tired of the shortage of electricity in some areas of QwaQwa, the enraged residents took the matter to the Maluti a phofung's head offices on Monday, to remonstrate with the government about the deficiency of electricity in their communities. QwaQwa. Free State.

The community members vandalised the head office and burnt some of the stuff in the building afterwards to show their frustrations..

Various communities in the area have gone without electricity for almost three weeks since last month May.- Said a source.

“This is what is happening at Maluti a phofung Municipality now, people are tired.”

“People are fighting for electricity, it’s been weeks now.”

According to Maluti a phofung’s Facebook page places like 1. Qholaqhwe, Lusaka, Comet, Makwane, Marakong,Bolata,Mangaung, Mandela Park, Ha Sethunya and many others have been affected by the power cuts since the beginning of winter.

This is a sign that Qwaqwa is definitely having hard times with electricity in its various communities.

This results in ESKOM power supply exceeding its capacity. This has a potential of damaging ESKOM’s infrastructure which is why ESKOM switches them off during the time of maximum consumption hence the power outage.

The Municipality have made a plea to the communities not to attack the Eskom employees when they fix the electricity in their areas, it has also asked the community members to cooperate with them as try to stabilize the situation.

“When officials/Electricians try to attend to substation, unknown individuals attack them while on duty in the evening.”

“We are making a humble plea to those people who attack officials to refrain from disturbing them while performing their duty.”

“We further request our communities to work together with Councilors in order to receive updated information.”

“The Municipality is doing utmost best to stabilize the electricity supply.”

The Municipality is engaging a service provider to repair the burnt breakers and the community will be updated on the progress thereof.

“The Municipality has purchased additional transformers to fast track the replacement of those that were burnt.”
