Men’s forum in Diepsloot has pledged to create awareness about the use of illegal substances by the children as one of factors that destroy men in the community. Said William Kgaditse, co-founder of men’s forum.

Speaking in the meeting at Social Development centre, ext.2 in Diepsloot, Kgaditse said on Tuesday, the forum will visit the schools around Diepsloot to meet with pupils and parents to make them aware, that by sending children to liquor stores they contribute to alcoholism in children.

“We will visit primary schools around Diepsloot to meet with kids and parents to tell them that they should stop sending children to go and buy lose draws and alcohol for them, cause once you do that, one day a child will want to taste that as well.” Kgaditse said.

Douglas Rameetse, part of Board of directors, said the men’s forum is working hard to build a society of better men by first grooming the little ones in schools.

“As Men’s forum we have to groom the school children so that they can be better men in the community.”

Kgaditse also touched upon the issue of sports facilities in schools, saying they are not used to their full capacity.

He also decried about the people who run sports in schools, saying they do so only to benefit themselves and urged that Men’s forum take over sports in schools.

“If you look at what is happening in schools today, sport is ran by people who want to benefit for themselves not the school, we have soccer leagues in Diepsloot but nothing is happening.”

“As Men’s forum we have to push sports in schools, for now we have to write a proposal to the Councillor.” He said.

The forum will promote the indigenous games in the schools and community to save children from the cataclysm of drugs that have befallen the community of Diepsloot lately, followed by the cases of pupils stabbing each other with screw drivers.

Other issues discussed include the creation of jobs for men in Diepsloot, as well as taking care of men who sleep in the streets.

“Men have many problems, things like sickness, unemployment and living alone are a big concern for us.” Said William Konenyane, part of Board of directors.

“I think there should be a home base care for men so that they can be helped like women are, and this must also be proposed to the counsellor.” He said.

Men’s forum is expected to fill the Diepsloot youth centre Hall, ext.2, to the brim on the 26th September with men for a dialogue they will have with the Stakeholders on how to build better men in the community of Diepsloot, as well as getting sponsors. Spokesperson, Mr P Majola said.
